Hot Toddy

Not enough has been made of HT lately. He’s worked so hard on this website, and he also made a great to-do over my birthday last weekend. He made me Robert Duvall’s mother’s crab cakes, and also a cherry cheesecake from scratch. 100% organic for both. That’s love.

He works so hard to support this family. He puts in tons of overtime without ever complaining. He comes home from a ten hour workday and tinkers with my blog for me. If he happens upon a pile of dirty dishes, he does them. He does more than his fair share of laundry. He grocery shops. He helps with homework if he’s not working. He takes the kids to activities whenever he can. He makes their lunches every single morning while I cover getting them dressed/washed/brushed.

He listens to me. He knows exactly who I mean when I mention blogger friends by name or anonymous handle.

I’m just scratching the surface here. So much I can’t even tell you.  So much is just us. These kids we have. How is it possible? Seriously. How does a kid come out of a person’s body? The whole miracle of life thing. If you look at it too hard, it is mind boggling.

I have never met a person more steadfast. He does what he says he’ll do. He does not play games. He does not make you wonder.

Wait, I take that back.

I do wonder, how did I ever get so lucky?Hot Toddy

Blonds Have More Fun

So if I’m going to do reviews, I have to come up with a way to make it worth your while to read them. What kind of friend would I be just to steer you over to the review page to force you to read an ad.  I know no one can force us to do anything, but you get what I mean.

Should I promise an inspirational quote with each review? A juicy something or other on law of attraction? Should I divulge something embarrassing about myself? Or better yet, something embarrassing about HT? Perhaps a photo of HT? Perhaps a photo of HT doing something embarrassing?

I’ve got to figure out my angle here. Until then, I give you…

Segment Intending

There is a process in the book Ask and it is Given called Segment Intending. Basically it consists of breaking your day up into segments and setting intentions as you go about your business.

Getting in the shower is a segment. Drying off and stepping into the bedroom to get dressed is a segment. Herding the children through getting dressed/hair brushing/face washing is a segment.

It takes practice. I look forward to the day I will go more than an hour or two remembering to segment intend.

Homework is often a landmine in our house. Riley’s anxiety runs high, and she’s already tired. This evening, I remembered to set my intention as we transitioned into the homework segment.

I am going to be happy, no matter what.

Without even thinking, I said, “If you two get through homework, with no fussing, I will do a crazy chicken dance for you.”

They flew to their respective stations. His in the dining room, hers in the kitchen.

As they got to work, I said from the other room, “I sure hope at least one of you fusses, because I do not want to do a crazy chicken dance! That would be so embarrassing.”

They dug in, with delighted expressions on their faces.

At one point, Riley started to ramp up.

“Riley? Are you about to fuss? I sure hope so!”

She ramped it back down.

We went over Seth’s spelling words and I begged him to fuss just a little. He would not.

Next we reviewed for Riley’s science test.

“One little fuss? Please?”

She wasn’t budging.

When they finished everything, I did my dance.

The craziest chicken dance you can imagine, and then something really embarrassing happened.

I laid an egg.

You see, as they were finishing up, I actually took an egg out of the fridge, and put it in the back of my undies. I danced ’til it fell out the bottom of my shorts, dropping on the kitchen floor and cracking.

The crowd went wild.

intended to be happy.

We had a wonderful evening.

Amen.

Waiting

Sometimes while waiting in traffic, or on an airplane, or at a cash register, I find myself getting all wound up. Patience isn’t my first reaction.

But I have a little trick that helps if I remember to use it.

I look around at the other people, in their airplane seats, in their cars, behind their counters, standing on line, and I take a moment to really see them. I mean, I’m not obvious. I don’t want to make anyone think I’m a freak uncomfortable, but I look at them one by one and say silently…

“I love you, and I honor your story.”

“I love you, and I honor your story.”

Everything shifts.

The line moves.

Most of all I feel better. Sometimes I’m even like, Wait! Hold up! I’m not done honoring everyone!

If only I could figure out a way to apply this trick to slow computers.

I love you and I honor your hard drive?

I’m so glad you’re here!

41Thanks so much for coming over. I hope you like the new place. I feel a little discombobulated, everything is so unfamiliar. I didn’t plan it this way, it just happened to be ready(though there is still much to tinker with), but today is my birthday and I think it is fitting the new blog starts today. I’m 41, baby!

Soon I’ll be combobulated again. I promise.

Lovingly yours,

MO’N
