Sunday

gauguin

A full on full, full day.

First, Jingle and I went on our “avoiding squirrel” practice. We walked for well over an hour. I got drunk on fall leaves. Crimson and orange.

Later it was chorus. Harmonies. Spirituals. Practice was held in the church sanctuary, an old beautiful church with great acoustics.

Next, the Gauguin exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art. You wanna know what I thought? My uneducated oh-pinion? Hold on while I channel my inner dude. Not enough half naked Tahitian chicks.  When I think Gauguin, I think Tahitian beauties. I didn’t realize it going in, but this exhibit featured the earlier work of Gauguin. When he was in Paris, not Tahiti.

See, I like Gauguin’s Tahiti paintings. I love the deep rich colors and I like the women. They are brown, and stout and sturdy and lovely, and they remind me you don’t have to be a size 2 to be beautiful. And they never have to wear a bra. Sigh.

No matter, there is still plenty to see at the Cleveland Museum of Art and I had yet to explore it. It is so exciting to view original paintings of artists like Manet, Monet, Renoir, O’Keefe, Van Gogh, Picasso, and yes Gauguin. Going to the museum makes me feel like a cool person who lives in a cool city. Oh Cleveland, you’re so pretty with your fall colors and your old churches and your museums.

Later, I went to see This is It. I was gauging the appropriateness of it for Seth. He’s even more into Michael Jackson now than he was before he died. You should see Seth emulating MJ’s dance moves. Seth knows nothing of Michael Jackson’s personal troubles, he’s never asked specifically how he died. He’s never asked “what’s up with his face?” Never questioned the young Michael vs. the older one. He just loves his music, loves the dance. He loves it.

What an incredible peek into the creative process. Michael Jackson was so very detail oriented. He was in control of every little factor of this huge stage production. He knew exactly what he wanted. He was dancing his ass off, keeping up effortlessly with the 20 year old dancers. They were in absolute awe of him. They loved him. He was so kind and polite to everyone on staff. What a rare thing. To be so meticulous and to also be considerate of other people’s feelings while trying to carry out a very specific vision. This was going to be quite a show. This is It is definitely worth seeing.michael jackson

They had a huge movie screen behind the stage and elaborate videos played throughout the show they were gearing up for. They even revamped Thriller. I think the Thriller part would be too scary for Seth, (perhaps we could cover his eyes and ears) but for Riley there is no way.

Now I’m home. HT is munching on the popcorn I bought for him. He’s a popcorn fiend. He can’t resist. Popcorn is his weakness. I’ve got him wrapped around my little finger now.

Babies are in bed. James Taylor on PBS.

Todd shaved his beard today while I was out being a cool person. Gotta go feel his face.

Happy Sunday.

Love.

Donny and I got tickets ahead of time to see MJ and we loved it! I bought the 2-disc cd. It was so cool because I felt like I was actually there watching him be amazing.

We saw This is It, too, and wholeheartedly agree. So much for that nonsense about him being sickly in the days before the end. Amazing movie. And what a loss that this show didn’t go on. It would have been something for the ages.

We spent a long weekend in Cleveland last spring, and were exceedingly surprised. Not at all like its reputation. We’ll certainly be back some day, and we’ll catch the art museum this time. Last trip was mostly about R & R hall of fame.
