Every day, when I unload the dishwasher, the tops of these cups are full of water. And the water tends to spill out onto the other dry dishes. And it is irritating. Not a biggie when you think about the state of the world, I know. It’s so trivial I’ve been dealing with it for the last 15 years (except the non-dishwasher years).
Today, when I unloaded the dishwasher, and the bottoms of these cups (there are only two left out of a set of six, Pfaltzgraff, lovely really) the water spilled out onto the dry dishes and I suddenly thought….I don’t need to keep those.
I thought I had purged every household thing we didn’t use or love, but those cups. There they were. Every day.
So after dropping the kids at school I had to drop something at UPS, and right next door was a giant thrift shop and I went in and got new cups. Two to replace the two that will be leaving me, today.
I like the feel of them. I love the textures. Morning coffee or tea rituals are so much more than about the coffee or tea. It’s the whole feel of it. They were like, a dollar each. And the bottoms are nice and flat.
Just how I like ’em.
What irritating thing are you putting up with?
I love this! I always empty the bottom rack of the dishwasher first so that when the water drips down from the stuff in the top rack, there’s nothing to get wet. Funny how we accommodate for these little annoyances, isn’t it? I love that you purged them and found yourself something new. I shall be alert today for things that drive me nuts that needn’t. Thank you.
Everything about the dishwasher irritates me. Loading it. Unloading it. And YES– getting the bottom rack wet on accident. Fool me once, right? But no. I make the mistake often.
My list is probably far too long. High up on it, though, is the water that collects in the rubber circle that lines the clothes washer door. No matter that I wipe it out after each load, the black stuff is completely stuck there and I just don’t understand WHY they designed these high efficiency front loaders with this ridiculous flaw. It sort of reminds me of when minivans were finally built with sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle. Why was that so hard to figure out and needed iterations?
Like Kario, I always empty the bottom rack first, for that very reason. I love that you replaced them, and couldn’t agree more that coffee and tea rituals are about so much more than coffee or tea!

Dear Michelle, I liked the porcelain/ceramic cup you pictured for us, but always, I would prefer glass. And the texture of the two glass cups you bought is so pleasing, not only to the eye, but I would think to the fingertips.
As to the irritating thing I’m putting up with, mine would be the one you just dealt with. I, too, have cups that hold onto the water, and that water always dribbles down on the rack below when I lift those cups. I can see I need to follow your example! Peace.
My irritating thing? I’ve been needing to get my tires pumped for months, yet still haven’t. I can feel myself getting lower and lower, riding from place to place. So, I guess the irritating thing in this scenario is me! Ha! Or at least, my laziness. Like throwing away those cups, why can’t I just get my tires filled when they obviously need to be done? Before I know it, it’ll be too late! So, I just decided I’m going today no matter what.
