When staying in a hotel for an extended period, do you tip the maid daily, or at the end? I’m counting on your answers, and so is Macnelly, our suite cleaner.
Lovingly yours,

I don’t know if I’m correct, we usually tip them at the end of the stay.
We always tip at the end – the longer the stay the bigger the tip.
I tip at the end; however, I have read travel books that say to tip every three days because you might not have the same person for the whole stay…and you might get better service.
I just read something about this, and evidently the etiquette is to tip each day because the staff changes daily. I think the article mentioned a $5/day tip.
I always tip everyday…in case the one taking care of my room is different each time.
As an aside, my English husband thinks tipping is an absurd practice, but having never worked in a service industry before, he has no idea how important tips are for folks who take care of your various needs.
Tipping is still not so big here in Britain especially living in Cornwall so far from London where it has become more expected. Businesses pay higher wages and don’t expect patrons to subsidize their workers salaries with a tip for doing what they were hired to do in the first place.
The Brit thing, which we don’t have a culture of tipping the way you do, would be to tip at the end. Usually we tip at 10% of the bill.
Ah, just read Elizabeth Harper – she said what I meant! 😀
I tip $5 every day if I’m staying a while. Seems the right thing to do in terms of thoughtfulness — and I think it doesn’t hurt in terms of getting continued good service!
We tip at the end of our stay, although when staying for several weeks, I would tip weekly. (It’s been years since I’ve had that kind of a trip!)
At the end, and make him/her an animal out of your towels from the bathroom, holding the tip. I do it each and every time we stay somewhere and I leave, imaging them finding it and hoping it brings a smile to their face!
I tip daily as the maids change each day most likely and I want to thank the person who did the job for me. I tip $5 a day – and I pre-make the beds, tidy the bathroom and general obsess over whether she thinks we are pigs or not…. Issues much Kim?
